dungeon23 week 18 - the not very good one

dungeon23

The main issue with dungeon23 for me now seems to be trying to make each week at least vaguely original.

Perhaps this is a struggle that I should be avoiding. Perhaps I should...

  1. embrace the fact that dungeons can be quite samey and work on the same basis; and/or
  2. do longer dungeons, not changing the theme every week.

I can't see myself doing (1) but (2) is a possibility.

Anyway, this week's was a fantasy dungeon based on dungeon clichés. I originally thought I would just use the actual clichés unadorned, but it turned into a mix of using them and subverting them. The initial room for instance is full of things players would expect to animate, but they're just normal suits of armour and bodies - damaging them is in fact a bad idea. The "bunch of orcs sitting in a room" have been meditating and almost reached enlightment. The "dragon in a far too small room" in fact can't even fit in the room. But some other parts are quite normal - there's a giant chessboard (obviously) that's fairly traditional, and a tomb with a wraith. Anyway I didn't mind this as much as I thought I would in the end.
